The Texas A&M University College of Nursing recently selected LeRoy Marklund, DNP, to lead its new delivery site at the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen (HECM).

Marklund’s appointment as assistant dean for undergraduate nursing education – McAllen comes as the College of Nursing prepares to welcome the first cohort of students in its traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program this spring. The four-semester offering will be delivered in person at the Texas A&M Nursing Education & Research Building at HECM.

Marklund joined Texas A&M in 2018 after a more than 30-year career in the U.S. Army. He earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland at Baltimore and BSN from California State University, Fresno. He also holds advanced degrees in administrative leadership and agriculture.

The Nursing Education & Research Building is the newest addition to the HECM campus. The nearly 61,000-square-foot facility includes four nursing classrooms, student study areas and a 10,000-square-foot clinical simulation center. The building will also house a veterinary clinic and research laboratory for the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.
