College of Nursing faculty selected as nurse practitioner fellows

A pair of Texas A&M University College of Nursing faculty members will be inducted as Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) this summer. Nicole Peters Kroll, PhD, and Matthew Sorenson, PhD, are among the 59 nurse practitioner leaders in the 2026 class who were selected for achievements in and exemplary service to the field.
The FAANP program was established in 2000 to advance nurse practitioners and the high-quality health care they provide. Recognized as nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to their field’s education, policy, clinical practice and research, AANP fellows volunteer expertise as reviewers, topical experts, committee members, journal contributors, mentors and more.
A clinical associate professor, Peters Kroll is the principal investigator on more than $16 million in externally funded projects that address health care access in rural and medically underserved areas through mobile care and telehealth. Also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), Peters Kroll continues to work as a nurse practitioner with the college’s mobile clinic program, which she leads, and Texas A&M University Health Services.
Peters Kroll has a PhD in nursing from The University of Texas at Tyler, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from The University of Texas Medical Branch. She also holds post-master’s certificates in psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner from Liberty University and the University of Massachusetts Boston, respectively.
Sorenson, a professor, is an expert in psychological stress, immunology and neurological disease. He has held administrative appointments at Texas A&M and DePaul University and was inducted as a FAAN in 2018. Sorenson also maintains an active clinical practice.
Sorenson received his PhD in nursing from Loyola University Chicago. He holds master’s degrees in nursing and applied family and child studies from Northern Illinois University, where he also completed a BSN. Sorenson also has a post-graduate certificate in advanced practice nursing from DePaul.
Kroll and Sorenson will be inducted on June 25 at the 2026 AANP National Conference in Las Vegas.
