SRPH holds “Valentines for Vets” event this week
(COLLEGE STATION, TX) — The Healthcare Management Graduate Student Association (HMGSA) at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health will hold “Valentines for Vets” – an event in recognition of National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week – Feb. 10-16.
Through Friday, Feb. 15, people are encouraged to stop by the HSC-SRPH Education Building on the Texas A&M West Campus and complete a Valentine’s note for a hospitalized veteran. It is not necessary to know a wounded or hospitalized veteran, as the note can be a simple “thank you” for their service or an acknowledgement of their sacrifice and contributions.
People also can bring individually wrapped treats Friday, Feb. 15 to the same location to be distributed during a visit to the Veterans Administration hospital in Temple the following day, Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“HMGSA decided as an organization that we wanted to champion the event for the School of Rural Public Health,” said U.S.A.F. Capt. Wendy Moreno, HSC-SRPH Master’s of Health Administration student and first-year HMGSA vice president . “The dedication to public health and commitment to service exemplified by our School is proven yet again by the phenomenal support we are receiving for the program. HMGSA thanks each and every person for their time and effort to brighten the day of a veteran. They have sacrificed so much for us, and it is our honor to say ‘thank you’ through the ‘Valentines for Vets’ program.”
The “Valentines for Vets” program is a nationwide event to honor hospitalized veterans during the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week. More information is available online at https://www1.va.gov/volunteer/nshv.cfm
