Two faculty members from the Texas A&M University College of Nursing have been selected as fellows of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN). Nicole Peters Kroll, PhD, and Paul Thomas Clements, PhD, are among the nurse leaders in the 2025 class recognized for their contributions to health and health care.

The newest group represents 42 states, the District of Columbia and 12 countries and brings AAN’s fellow membership to more than 3,200.

A clinical associate professor, Peters Kroll’s career has spanned academia, administration and clinical practice. At the College of Nursing, she serves as the principal investigator on nearly $9 million in grants to improve access to health care in rural and medically underserved areas through mobile care and telehealth. In addition to holding faculty and administrative appointments in higher education, Peters Kroll has maintained a clinical practice as a nurse practitioner, including for the College of Nursing’s mobile clinic program, which she oversees, and Texas A&M University Health Services.

Peters Kroll has a PhD in nursing from The University of Texas at Tyler, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from The University of Texas Medical Branch. She also holds post-master’s certificates in psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner from Liberty University and the University of Massachusetts Boston, respectively.

Clements is a clinical professor who also works with the college’s Texas A&M Health Center of Excellence in Forensic Nursing. An expert in violence prevention, trauma-informed care and behavioral assessment, he is a widely published scholar with dozens of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and books. Clements joined Texas A&M in 2022 after faculty and administrative roles at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Drexel University; Old Dominion University; and the University of New Mexico.

Clements earned his PhD in psychiatric forensic nursing and MSN in child and family psychiatric mental health nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a BSN from Wilmington University. Clements is also a distinguished fellow of both the Academy of Forensic Nursing and International Association of Forensic Nurses.

Peters Kroll and Clements will be inducted as fellows at the AAN’s annual Health Policy Conference on Oct. 18 in Washington, D.C.
