It was another tremendous success for the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy Second Annual Silver Star Gala on Jan. 8 at the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Center. More than 150 students, faculty, staff, alumni, local and state representatives, and community leaders attended the fundraiser for college-initiated community service projects, student-centered programs, and faculty research.

The gala highlighted the many milestones of the TAMHSC-Rangel College of Pharmacy in the past year including the inaugural graduation in May, the receipt of “Full Accreditation” status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) Board in June, and the opening of the new Pharmaceutical Research Facility last fall.

Nancy W. Dickey, M.D., president of the Texas A&M Health Science Center and chancellor for health affairs for The Texas A&M University System, praised the college on all of its accomplishments.

“The Silver Star Gala is a fabulous opportunity to celebrate the finest college of pharmacy in the state of Texas,” Dr. Dickey said. “The leadership at the college continuously finds new ways to challenge our students and bring them new opportunities.”

Several community patrons demonstrated their dedication to the college by sponsoring tables, including CVS Caremark, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Kleberg, H-E-B, Kleberg First National Bank, Walgreens and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

“This year’s Silver Star Gala marks the many accomplishments of the Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy in the past year,” said Indra K. Reddy, Ph.D., founding dean of the college. “The unshaken institutional commitment to this program and unprecedented community engagement and support are contributing factors to our many successes.”

Throughout the gala, the patrons/sponsors were recognized for supporting and advancing the mission and goals of the Rangel College of Pharmacy and its impact on this region’s health care.

“With the recent establishment of the first alumni association, I look forward to their participation in future galas, helping to establish new traditions and a successful legacy of giving at the TAMHSC-Rangel College of Pharmacy,” said Kimberlee Garza, college director of institutional advancement.
