Bolin to serve on the “Transforming Texas” Leadership Team

Jane Bolin, B.S.N., J.D., Ph.D., professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, recently accepted an invitation to serve on the “Transforming Texas” initiative Leadership Team for the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

DSHS was awarded a grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for this initiative aimed at preventing chronic diseases in high risk areas of the state of Texas. The grant has helped fund work with various rural and border communities in developing best practices for health care that can minimize chronic illness such as obesity and cardiovascular disease.

The Leadership Team is comprised of public health professionals from across the state with varying backgrounds and training that represent the diverse populations and regions of Texas. Members of the team will focus primarily on preventive services that can be administered to control or reverse damage caused by chronic diseases.

The Leadership Team will participate in quarterly virtual planning calls, as well as meet twice a year in Austin, Texas for more formal discussions/review of the work being done in order to effectively guide this national public health initiative.
