Carrillo Awarded EPA Award
Genny Carrillo Zuniga, M.D., M.P.H., M.S.P.H., Sc.D. was recently awarded the U.S.-Mexico Border 2012 Environmental Leadership Award by William Luthans, representative from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 6 and Eliacib Lejia Garza, representative of the Secretaria de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT). The award is given to those persons who provide outstanding leadership and support to the Gulf Environmental Health Committee.
Dr. Carrillo’s research on asthma in south Texas addresses asthma triggers in the home environment and focuses on the provision of integrated educational interventions for low-income, Mexican-American families living in border colonias within Hidalgo County. The goal of this research is to improve the quality of life for asthmatic children.
