Dean honored by Pharmacists Association

(KINGSVILLE, TX) – Indra K. Reddy, Ph.D., dean of the Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, recently received two prestigious honors from the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).

Dr. Reddy received the 2010 Research Achievement Award in the Pharmaceutical Sciences and was named an APhA Fellow by the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science (APRS). He will be recognized at the APhA annual meeting and exposition in March.

The research achievement award encourages and recognizes outstanding meritorious achievement in any of the pharmaceutical sciences. The award rotates every year among the APhA-APRS sections that includes basic sciences, clinical sciences, and the economic, social and administrative sciences. Contributions recognized are those that develop knowledge and integrate the process of science into the profession of pharmacy.

The APhA Fellow Award honors organization members for exemplary professional achievements in professional practice and for outstanding service to the profession through activities in the APhA and other organizations.

Dr. Reddy is the founding dean of the HSC-College of Pharmacy in Kingsville. He has done innovative work in the areas of ophthalmic and transdermal drug design, development and delivery and authored/co-authored six textbooks, written 14 book chapters, edited two reference books, and published more than 100 research and review articles. He has received many awards and accolades for his teaching, research and service.

The American Pharmacists Association, founded in 1852 as the American Pharmaceutical Association, represents more than 62,000 practicing pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and others interested in advancing the profession. APhA, dedicated to helping all pharmacists improve medication use and advance patient care, is the first established and largest association of pharmacists in the United States. In addition to resources for practitioners, APhA also stimulates the discovery, dissemination and application of research to improve patient health and serves pharmacists and those members who are involved in the pharmaceutical sciences.
