CTxCARES 2010 mini-grants awarded

Communities of Texas, Cancer-Activity-Research-Education-Support (CTxCARES) 2010 mini-grants were awarded recently by the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) School of Rural Public Health Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network to five organizations to develop community strategies for promoting physical activity.

Those receiving grants of $10,000 were The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley; Brazos Valley Community Action Agency; Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Leon County; the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department in Navasota, Texas; and the Parks and Leisure Services Department in Temple, Texas. These mini-grants provide an opportunity for communities to apply evidence-based strategies to addressing lifestyle factors that affect most chronic diseases, including cancer. The TAMHSC-School of Rural Public Health will provide technical assistance to each of these projects to enhance the individual projects as well as build synergies across the funded set of projects.
