Dr. Burdine appointed to advisory panels

James Burdine, Dr.P.H., assistant dean for public health practice and professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, recently was appointed to two national advisory panels, one advising the Association for Community Health Improvement and the other, the Catholic Health Association.

The purpose of both advisory panels is to prepare materials to assist hospitals in responding to requirements of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (healthcare reform legislation) and the new Internal Revenue Service standards for documenting community benefit to maintain nonprofit status.

Dr. Burdine’s 25 years of experience with conducting community health status assessments in more than 50 communities across the nation, including the recent implementation of the Brazos Valley Health Assessment, provides the advisory panels with a unique perspective on an important element of setting priorities for community health improvement activities.
