Texas A&M’s Horney appointed to National Emergency Preparedness Committees

Jennifer A. Horney, PhD, MPH., CPH, associate professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Public Health, has been appointed recently to several national emergency preparedness advisory groups by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Horney serves on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate’s Science Advisory Guide for Emergencies. She also serves on the U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Best Practices Workgroup developing special considerations for IRB review of disaster and emergency related public health research. She is part of the workgroup designing the National Health Security Preparedness Index Model for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to be part of the discussion about improving public health preparedness and response research at the national level,” Horney said. “All of these projects are helping to improve our ability to do high quality research after disasters and evaluate the effectiveness of the public health system in protecting the public’s health after disasters.”
