COM hosts Reunion
(COLLEGE STATION, TX) — The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine will host “Reunion ’08” on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1-2 for alumni and their families, along with the college’s largest-ever incoming class of 135 first-year students.
The weekend kicks off Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Joe H. Reynolds Medical Building courtyard on the Texas A&M University West Campus (Olsen Boulevard) for the Dean’s Welcome Dinner. The event includes a family-friendly dinner, tours of the medical school and simulation center, children’s activities and entertainment by Bill Bertrand and the Country Magic Band. Admission for HSC-College of Medicine faculty, staff, alumni and students is free, but tickets are required and can be picked up in the dean’s office in the Reynolds Building.
Saturday begins with a white coat ceremony for the Class of 2012 to signify the beginning of their medical training. Class of ’83 graduate William L. Rayburn, M.D., college faculty member and Scott & White College Station Clinic physician, is the featured speaker at 10 a.m. at Rudder Theater Complex at Texas A&M (corner of Joe Routt Boulevard and Houston Street). A reception follows at the nearby Rudder Exhibit Hall.
Saturday evening, alumni and their guests are invited to join college faculty and staff for Reunion ’08 to celebrate the classes of 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2003. The reunion will begin with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. in the George Bush Library Complex Rotunda (1000 George Bush Drive West). Dinner is at 7:30 p.m. at the Leonore and Walter Annenberg Presidential Conference Center. Tickets are $100, and reservations are required.
The Texas A&M Health Science Center provides the state with health education, outreach and research. Its seven colleges located in communities throughout Texas are the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, the College of Medicine in College Station and Temple, the College of Nursing in College Station, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Institute of Biosciences and Technology in Houston, the Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy in Kingsville, and the School of Rural Public Health in College Station.
