HSC Drs. Phillips, Leibowitz elected to A&M Council of Principal Investigators
(COLLEGE STATION, TX) — Charles Phillips, Ph.D., M.P.H., professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, recently was elected to the Council of Principal Investigators (CPI), an elected body of research-active faculty from various components of the Texas A&M University System.
Also elected from the health science center was Julian Leibowitz, M.D., Ph.D., professor of microbial and molecular pathogenesis in the HSC-College of Medicine.
The CPI will be dealing with a variety of issues important to HSC researchers. One is the balance between centralization and institutional autonomy in research support.
“I am very pleased my fellow investigators elected me to serve as the voice of my colleagues in the health science center on the Council of Principal Investigators,” Dr. Phillips said. “My hope is that the CPI can aid the A&M System administration in developing a model for support that truly assists our researchers in their efforts to remain at the forefront of basic and applied research.”
The CPI represents faculty from the HSC, Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), AgriLife Research and Texas A&M University. It is committed to fostering the Texas A&M research community goal of being nationally recognized and competitive for research and teaching.
