IBT receives March of Dimes Texas chapter award for research efforts

(HOUSTON) — Recognizing its work on the role of genes in the development of heart defects, cleft lip/palate and neural tube birth defects like spina bifida and the transport of folic acid during pregnancy, the Texas A&M Health Science Center Institute of Biosciences and Technology was awarded the 2008 Outstanding Research in Sciences Award from the Texas chapter of the March of Dimes.

The award was given during the HOPE Luncheon on Thursday, May 1 at the River Oaks Country Club. Given annually, it recognizes institutions and individuals who embody the March of Dimes’ mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

The Texas A&M Health Science Center provides the state with health education, outreach and research. Its seven colleges located in communities throughout Texas are Baylor College of Dentistry, the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Institute of Biosciences and Technology, the Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, and the School of Rural Public Health.
