IBT scientist Dr. Liu promoted to professor
(HOUSTON, TX) – Mingyao Liu, Ph.D., in the Center for Stem Cell and Cancer Biology at the Texas A&M Health Science Center Institute of Biosciences and Technology at Houston has been promoted to professor, effective Sept. 1.
Dr. Liu joined HSC-IBT in 1999 as an assistant professor in the Center and was appointed a tenured associate professor in 2003. His laboratory is working to develop potential drug candidates to diagnose and treat cancer, osteoporosis and eye diseases.
Before arriving at HSC-IBT, Dr. Liu was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a research fellow in the Division of Biology at the California Institute of Technology. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Hunan Normal University in Hunan, China, and his Ph.D. in cell biology in 1992 from the University of Maryland.
Dr. Liu has a joint appointment in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the HSC-College of Medicine. He is a member of the Texas A&M University Intercollegiate Faculty of Genetics and the Graduate Faculty of Biomedical Sciences Program in Cell and Regulatory Biology and Cancer Biology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Dr. Liu is a consulting director of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at East China Normal University in Shanghai and an adjunct professor at Hunan Normal University Shanghai-Jiaotong University Ruijing Hospital and Wenzhou Medical College.
