Public Health Dean Jay Maddock to chair National Public Health Preparedness Advisory Group

Dean Jay Maddock, PhD, of the Texas A&M School of Public Health, has been appointed chair of the national Public Health Preparedness Advisory Group by the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH).

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently funded nine Preparedness and Emergency Response Research Centers (PERRC) and 14 Preparedness and Emergency Response Learning Centers (PERLC) at schools of public health throughout the nation. As the national coordinating center for the projects, ASPPH has established an advisory group Dean Maddock will lead that will work with the CDC and centers to coordinate the translation, dissemination and implementation of public health emergency response research and training.

“I look forward to working with the advisory group to assist centers in improving our nation’s public health preparedness and emergency response capabilities,” Maddock said.

The 20-person committee includes Margaret Kitt, MD, MPH, assistant surgeon general; Jack Herrmann, MSEd, senior program officer of the National Academies of Sciences; Georges Benjamin, MD, executive director of the American Public Health Association; and Thomas Chapel, MBA, CDC chief evaluation officer; and Michael Gluck, PhD, senior director at AcademyHealth.
