McAllen Students Awarded Scholarships
Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health graduate students at the McAllen campus, Loida Tamayo and David Irizarry, were awarded competitive scholarships and recently participated in the First annual Exito! Latino Cancer Research Leadership Training Summer Institute. The training was part of the Institute for Health Promotion Research at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and seeks to increase diversity in Latino health disparities and cancer research by encouraging Latino/Hispanic master’s-level students to pursue a doctoral degree and a career in research.
Both Ms. Tamayo and Mr. Irizarry will complete their degrees in health policy and management from TAMHSC-School of Rural Public Health in 2012.
