McDonald promoted, Hong awarded Tenure

Dr. Thomas McDonald, Ph.D.

Thomas McDonald, Ph.D., has been promoted to professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) School of Rural Public Health, effective Sept. 1.

Dr. McDonald serves as head of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, and his research interests are in the fields of environmental chemistry, petroleum geochemistry and organic chemistry. He received a B.S. in marine science from Texas A&M University at Galveston and both an M.S. and a Ph.D. in oceanography from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Yan Hong, Ph.D.

Yan Hong, Ph.D., associate professor at the TAMHSC-School of Rural Public Health, was awarded tenure by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents at its last meeting.

Dr. Hong’s research interests include HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases prevention and intervention, application of mobile technologies in health promotion, mixed-method research involving both qualitative and quantitative methods, and global health. She received a B.S. in English from Xiamen University in China, a M.A.A. in applied anthropology in community health and development from the University of Maryland, and a Ph.D. in health behavior and society from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
