School of Rural Public Health Holds Graduation Saturday
The School of Rural Public Health (SRPH), part of The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center, will hold commencement exercises this Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the Leonore and Walter Annenberg Presidential Conference Center next to the Bush Presidential Library.
Dr. Jo Ivey Boufford will deliver the commencement address. Dr. Boufford served as dean of the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University from June 1, 1997, to November 1, 2002. Prior to that, she served as principal deputy assistant secretary for health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from November 1993 to January 1997, and as acting assistant secretary from January 1997 to May 1997. While at HHS, she served as the U.S. representative on the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) from 1994-1997 and was re-appointed to this position in May 1998. She also served as president of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), the largest municipal system in the United States, from December 1985 until October 1989.
This yearÂ’s commencement also marks a great milestone for the School of Rural Public Health. With the August graduates, the school will have graduated over 200 students since its first class entered in 1998.
The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center provides the state with health education, outreach and research. Its five components located in communities throughout Texas are Baylor College of Dentistry, the College of Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Institute of Biosciences and Technology and the School of Rural Public Health.
