Nora Montalvo-Liendo, PhD, RN, FAAN, was recently added to the faculty of the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) College of Nursing as assistant professor.

Montalvo-Liendo will be the lead faculty member for the McAllen campus of the College of Nursing and serve as a key component of the college’s mission to enhance translational research and expand nursing education in South Texas and across the state.

As a bilingual Hispanic research nurse with a nursing education in public health, she has dedicated her professional life to fostering new evidence to guide policy and best clinical practices for abused women on the Texas-Mexico border.

“The McAllen Texas A&M nursing presence is perfect for our student population and I’m so excited to be a part of this growth,” said Montalvo-Liendo. “Research needs to have more leaders joining this mission. Getting students interested in research early-on is a huge component of this and my hope for this campus.”

Montalvo-Liendo was previously an associate professor with the graduate program at the University of Texas at Brownsville College of Nursing and is a nurse-researcher at Friendship of Women, Inc., a center that provides emergency shelter and supportive services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

She explains that the relationship with the rest of the TAMHSC College of Nursing faculty was crucial to her decision to join A&M. “With a growing faculty body focused on the fields of forensic, domestic assault, sexual assault, and Latina nursing studies – it’s the perfect combination for translational research,” she said. “This collaboration offers the opportunity to open many doors to educational and intervention work within academics and the community.”
