School of Public Health announces Faculty Emeritus recognition

The Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Public Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Marlynn May, Ph.D., and James Robinson, Ph.D., as Faculty Emeritus. The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents formally awarded the Professor Emeritus status to both May and Robinson, who are both with the Department of Health Promotion and Community Health Sciences.

 Since joining the Texas A&M School of Public Health in 1999 as an adjunct professor, May has made significant contributions to the school from research and teaching to numerous service and outreach activities. He has had 11 funded projects, with sources of funding including the Health Resources and Services Administration, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Ford Foundation. He continues to be involved with the school, spearheading the undergraduate public health degree program in McAllen, TX.

 Robinson, who first joined the TAMU system in 1994 as a visiting professor, has since brought recognition to the school through professional service and scholarly activity. In the course of his career, Robinson has obtained over $1.5 million in grants and contracts. One of his most significant awards was from the Texas Education Agency when he was funded to facilitate the development and dissemination of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Health and Physical Education. Additionally, he has chaired both masters and doctoral committees throughout his career while also serving the school in numerous capacities ranging from membership on the Board of Directors for the American Association for Health Education to committee appointments and chairmanships. During his time at the school, Robinson also founded the Annual Golf Tournament held during National Public Health Week to raise scholarships for our students. The tournament is now in its 11^th year and continues to assist our students in traveling to and participating in workshops and conferences throughout the country.
