SRPH faculty appointed to state council

James Alexander, Ph.D., associate professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, has been appointed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry to a three-year term on the Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Council.

The broad purpose of the council is to ensure health care services and facilities are available to all Texans through health planning activities. The council provides guidance in the development of the Texas State Health Plan, which is submitted to the governor for adoption. The 17-member council consists of 13 members appointed by the governor and four ex-officio members representing specified state agencies.

Dr. Alexander is a board member and treasurer of the Burleson County Hospital District and is a board member of the Brazos Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse. He is a founding board member of the Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals and the Texas Association of Rural Health Clinics.
