SRPH professor joins ASPH/HRSA initiative for public health nurses

(COLLEGE STATION, TX) — Jane Bolin, Ph.D., J.D., R.N., assistant professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, recently was selected by the Association of Schools of Public Health to participate in the Public Health Nursing Leadership Initiative.

Dr. Bolin’s experience as a registered nurse, including critical care ICU/CCU, and more than 15 years of practice as a health lawyer is an invaluable asset to the initiative. As such, she will be able to provide a unique public health policy perspective on issues related to population-based health care and related areas of public health law and ethics.

Dr. Bolin will join other representatives from schools of public health, schools of nursing and the practice community in developing a report on leadership issues facing public health nurses. Their recommendations will be reported to the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

The Public Health Nursing Leadership Initiative is a collaboration of the ASPH and HRSA.

The Texas A&M Health Science Center provides the state with health education, outreach and research. Its six components located in communities throughout Texas are Baylor College of Dentistry, the College of Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Institute of Biosciences and Technology, the School of Rural Public Health, and the Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy.
