Student pharmacist receives Del Mar alumni award

Brady McNulty, a fourth–year professional student pharmacist at the Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, was selected as the 2013 Young Alumni award from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas.

He received the award Sept. 19 at the Del Mar College 2013 Blue & Silver Spectacular at the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina in Corpus Christi. During the event, the Del Mar Alumni Association recognized six honorees for their stellar support of Del Mar College, its students and the community.

McNulty earned the award for his outstanding work and leadership skills. He took on various roles as a leader throughout his time at the Del Mar College.

“I believe part of why I was chosen was because I always tried to participate and take on leadership roles during my time there,” he said. “I was surprised to find out that I had won the award. I hope that it shows I am doing something right and doing it well enough that others have taken notice.  ”

He was nominated by his peers and selected by the Alumni Association Awards Committee during a blind review process.

“Brady is one of our brightest students at the college,” said Indra K. Reddy, Ph.D., professor and founding dean at the Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy. “We are very proud of him and his continued accomplishments at the Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy.” 

He continued to take on leadership roles while attending the Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy that were similar to the role to the roles he had at Del Mar College.

At the Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy, McNulty led many on- and off-campus organizations. He served at the Freemasons Lodge where he organized several events, including a Veterans Day celebration, a public health fair and scholarship awards. He also served as the president of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists and as a delegate for the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists.  

“I believe it is important for each one of us to participate and give back to our community whenever we get the opportunity,” McNulty said. “Unfortunately, I had to step down in some leadership roles due to my mother’s illness.  In light of her passing, this award is definitely a bright light in my life right now and I am grateful for the recognition I am being given.”

A contributing factor in earning the award for McNulty was the strong support he has for Del Mar College.  He remains a firm supporter of the role that community colleges have in the education of undergraduates and is quite fond of the time he spent at Del Mar College.

“Everyone starts somewhere and I believe that Del Mar College can be that somewhere for people in South Texas,” he said.
