Texas A&M Physicians Opens New Clinic

BRYAN— On June 30, 2011, the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) College of Medicine celebrated its Texas A&M Physicians Family Medicine division with a ribbon cutting at their new facility at 2900 East 29^th Street in Bryan in conjunction with the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce.

“The opening of this clinic is part of our important commitment in the College of Medicine to improving the health of people of the Brazos Valley,” said Sam Shomaker, M.D., J.D., the Jean and Thomas McMullin Dean of the College of Medicine and Vice President for Clinical Affairs for the Texas A&M Health Science Center.

In January 2011, construction began on the inside of the first two floors of the three-story building at the corner of Broadmoor Drive and East 29^th Street in Bryan.  The Texas A&M Physicians Family Medicine division began seeing patients at the new facility June 1.

The Texas A&M Health Science Center and Borski Homes Inc., the owners of the building, have infused approximately $2 million in renovation and equipment costs to ready the facility for the Texas A&M Physicians Family Medicine division and the College of Medicine Family Medicine Residency program.

Of the building’s approximately 32,000 square feet, the Texas A&M Physicians Family Medicine division occupies about 20,500 square feet.  The space is used for a comprehensive family medicine clinic and for the education of Family Medicine residents and medical students.  The clinic space includes an in-house lab, radiology suite, endoscopy suite, classroom, administrative offices and resident office space.

“Today, we celebrate the opening of a new facility that will provide a home base for the Family Medicine division of Texas A&M Physicians, including the residents and staff of the Family Medicine Residency,” said Chris Cargile, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for the Texas A&M Physicians.  “This project demonstrates a collaborative effort between a number of our community partners, and will help meet the healthcare needs of the Brazos Valley.”

Following the ribbon cutting, attendees toured the new building and visited with faculty and residents. 

Additional attendees at the ribbon cutting and open house included doctors from the Texas A&M Physicians Neurology, Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, and Pediatric Orthopedics and Musculoskeletal Surgical Oncology divisions; Chamber of Commerce members; construction partners from Borski Homes, Inc.; and partners from the TAMHSC College of Medicine’s clinical affiliates: the College Station Medical Center, the Physicians Centre, Scott & White Clinic College Station and St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
